About the Artist Susan Swick Morrow has been creating beautiful photographs professionally since 1987. Starting as a wedding photographer, in the last seventeen years her craft has evolved and now she specializes in portraits of children and their families. Ms. Morrow received her business degree from the University of Connecticut and began a career in business in New York City. She was unhappy in the retail industry and began to search for her "true" calling. Not surprisingly she eventually discovered that her childhood passionphotographywas to become her career. As she says, "I was unhappy in the corporate world and knew I wanted to be more creative. l had loved taking photos since I was a young girl when my grandfather gave me his Brownie camera." After 10 years of studying photography both in class and in the field, she became a full-time photographer. Ms. Morrow has studied at the former New Canaan Photographic Workshop. The Silvermine Guild of Art, and the Maine Photographic Workshops in Rockport, ME. She continues to attend workshops to hone her craft and interact with other professionals. Ms. Morrow states, "there is something very powerful about presenting my work to my peers and accepting criticism and suggestions, it has pushed me to be a better photographer." Ms. Morrow is affiliated with the Professional Photographers of America and has won several awards throughout her career including the Award of Excellence and the Award of Expert and a Judge's Award in the Connecticut Photographer's Association annual juried shows. "I really value the written comments of the judges." says Ms. Morrow. Three of her photographs have been featured world-wide on AVANI greeting cards. She is constantly seeking new outlets for her work and recently published three books: Lovies, The Next Station to Heaven and New Canaan, Black and White. Ms. Morrow accepts clients by appointment only. Her studio is in her home which allows for a more relaxed, friendly, comfortable environment for her clients. She offers a free consultation to each potential customer. Says Ms. Morrow, "the person who hires me to make a portrait of a child or the family has taken on the role of family historian. Portraits of the family are a vital and enjoyable way to chronicle the stages and lives of the family and will be cherished for generations to come. It is my job and my joy, to create photographs that express the true nature of each subject." The perfect locationI'm familiar with may picturesque locations throughout the area or can scout out a new one to meet your dream of the perfect portrait. Sittings Sittings are not timed. They are based on capturing the spirit of the subjects. I am always sensitive to the child's needs and if it seems that they have had enough or the day just isn't right for shooting the photo, I will be happy to reschedule. My philosophy is that a child needs to be comfortable, relaxed and in the right frame of mind in order to get the photo that expresses that child's true nature. I try to encourage the child's natural personality to come out so I do not use the word "smile". In fact, one of my favorite parts of a sitting is playing with the child, getting to know them and helping them feel at ease. If we can't achieve this relaxed feeling on the first day, or the child is ill, overtired or its the wrong time of daywe simply reschedule! My sitting fee is a one-time fee. Once I have a deposit and a contract, I will work with your child until we get the 'right' moodwhen your child is relaxed their natural charm and beauty will shine in the photo. |
